New Restaurant Josefina Announced for Harbor Point

Original concept from celebrated local Chef David Zamudio will bring a unique taste of Spain to Baltimore.

Josefina, an exciting new Spanish casual-dining restaurant from award-winning local Chef David Zamudio (Alma Cocina Latina) will debut at Harbor Point in a joint announcement made today by Beatty Development and Armada Hoffler. With a tentative opening scheduled for Fall 2024, Josefina will lease 3,820 square feet at 1409 Point Street, on the street level of the 1405 Point residential building.

At Josefina, patrons will be transported to the south of Spain, where vibrant décor and lively traditional music meet exceptional cuisine to create a unique dining experience. Waiters in crisp white shirts and red neckerchiefs will take orders tableside and serve the food family style – small and large plates meant to be shared amongst the table that arrive promptly as they are ready. The menu will be comprised mainly of tapas, with entrees that include Spanish classics like aged steak and fried fish. Josefina will also feature an equally robust bar program, with an expansive wine selection and a focus on craft cocktails.

“This will not be your typical Spanish restaurant that focuses solely on the traditions and classics of the past, but rather a reimagination of Spanish flavors and ingredients with a consideration of the future,” said Chef David Zamudio.

For Zamudio, who in January 2024 was named a James Beard Foundation Award Semifinalist for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic, Josefina is the first of several planned restaurants intended to tell a deeply personal, complex story of Latin American culture and history through gastronomy. “With Josefina, I’m laying the groundwork to travel through time across Latin America to showcase the traditional roots, the influence and fusion of cultures who immigrated there, and the evolution that continues to shape the region today,” said Zamudio. “With each restaurant, I will pay homage to where I came from, where I had unique opportunities to learn and grow in my career, and the potential for growth through the future,” said Zamudio.

Even the restaurant name holds a deeper meaning for Zamudio, who adds: “Josefina was chosen to honor the matriarchs of my family, a long line of women, all named Josefina, who led to my creation, and each in her own way helped to shape me into who I am.”

“From the earliest meeting with Chef David, our team has been blown away by the clarity and depth of his unique vision for Josefina,” said Michael Beatty, President, Beatty Development Group. “We’re thrilled that he has chosen to partner with us and launch this exciting next phase of his journey at Harbor Point.”

At 1405 Point, Josefina will join Amanda Gallagher Orthodontics, [solidcore], and the recently opened Attman’s Deli. Opened in 2018, 1405 Point is a 17-story luxury residential building with 289 apartments, best-in-class amenities, and almost 18,000 square feet of street-level retail space. Located along Baltimore’s scenic waterfront between Harbor East and Fell’s Point, Harbor Point is a 27-acre mixed-use neighborhood with a planned three million square feet of office, retail, residential, and hotel uses, as well as 9.5 acres of open space.

Jeff Bach and Ana Henrich of JLL represented the landlord, Armada Hoffler, in the transaction. Claudia Towles of Compass Realty represented the tenant.
